In partnership with ZUMTOBEL Lighting, HEMPLA SANCTUARY -“MEDITATION PIT-STOP”- is a unique interactive installation which blends mindfulness with advanced design, ancient craft, sound and light at Zumtobel's new Milano headquarters during Fuorisalone 2025.
Pairing product design with art, SofiaHagen x Studio Marmi bring together the latest in innovative 3d printing technologies and traditional craftmanship to create a timeless design dedicated to mindfulness.
Inspired by the principles of the traditional Zen Garden for contemplation, HEMPLA is a meditation furniture set that invites its users to create a sanctuary to relax and meditate in a variety of configurations.
HEMPLA meditation furniture set is structured around the Zen garden principles such as simplicity, naturalness and creating an environment of peace, harmony and tranquility.

The Seat
HEMP & FERMENTED SUGARCANE
AS 3D PRINTED BIOMATERIAL
Hempla seat I is made with organic hemp which is turned into 3D printing pellets also bound with bio-PLA from fermented sugarcane.
Hempla seat II is made solely with BIO-PLA from fermented sugarcane, creating a translucent surface and integrates LED lighting by Studio Waldemeyer, programmed to follow the user’s circadian rhythm.
Sustainability is at the forefront of Hempla philoshophy. 3D printing as a technology is one of the most energy efficient fabrication methods to date, saving 50% of materials compared to traditional fabrication methods and creating zero waste as no formwork or additional structures are needed but can be incorporated into the design. This also makes the pieces fully recyclable, biodegradable and non-toxic.

The Rug
HAND WOVEN RECYCLED HEMP FIBERS & 100% NATURAL WOOL
The Hempla meditation rug is handwoven with un-dyed recycled hemp fibers and 100% natural wool. Handwoven in Usak, Turkey by skilled weavers, each meditation rug is unique and showcases the natural variations of hemp color.
Designed to provide cushioning for comfort during meditation, it’s comprised of finely woven hemp with a silky feel and soft wool fibers. The rugs provide a comfortable base and support for daily meditation practice.
Hemp fibers are strong, durable, and mildew-free.

In partnership with ZUMTOBEL Lighting, HEMPLA SANCTUARY -“MEDITATION PIT-STOP”- is a unique interactive installation which blends mindfulness with advanced design, ancient craft, sound and light at Zumtobel's new Milano headquarters during Fuorisalone 2025.
The installation will form a biophilic oasis of calm, for visitors to reset during the overstimulation Milan Design Week can be. Inspired by the principles of the traditional Zen Garden for contemplation, the Sanctuary consists of a curation of HEMPLA meditation furniture - 3D printed hemp & sugar seats and handmade organic hemp & wool rugs by Sofia Hagen and Studio Marmi.
HEMPLA Sanctuary invites the visitors to relax and meditate, while immersing themselves in a SONIC MENU consisting of bespoke healing soundscapes by The Sound Nutritionist -The Hemplawave, based on the geometries of HEMPLA - ephemeral lighting by Thorn Lighting, and a daily guided meditation session.

The Team
Sofia Hagen leads an award-winning creative practice working at the intersection of art, design and
tech to create 3D-printed sculptural products and installations. The practice has built a reputation
for blending high-end design with cutting-edge technology and advanced biomaterial research.
Prior to launching her own studio, Sofia Hagen was co-founder of HagenHinderdael, a practice that
received critical attention for its use of cutting-edge technology and advanced material research to
create high-end design products. She led the creative conception and design development of the
practice’s 3D-printed products and installations, working closely with digital fabrication specialists
and material scientists globally.
A highly versatile practitioner with keen business acumen, she worked from product design to
interior and large-scale architectural developments at some of the leading names in the industry,
including Zaha Hadid Architects, Heatherwick Studios, Design Haus Liberty, Acme Space, David
Collins Studio, Bompas and Parr, and Make.
Austrian-Polish, Sofia trained in architectural design under the aegis of Zaha Hadid at the
University of Applied Arts in Vienna, where she graduated with a Masters in Architecture in 2008,
followed by a traineeship as interior designer at Odile Decq Architects, Paris

Asli Smith - Sirin Aysan
Founded by Asli Smith & Sirin Aysan through a mutual love and appreciation of individually crafted and handwoven rugs, the Marmi brand was born out of the founders’ desire to work with artisans in their native land, Turkey and to create unique collections that expressed rug design as an art form.
Asli Smith is an artist and multi-disciplinary designer based in New York. Her textile work, informed by traditional Anatolian textile and weaving techniques, seeks to create contemporary poetic expressions inspired by the myths, art and history of the cultures of Asia Minor. Her woven paintings were on view at the 5th Istanbul Design Biennial as part of the New Civic Rituals Section in 2020. Kozmos Rug Collection, which she designed for Atlas Harran, was selected as winner of Floor Coverings Category of the Edida Awards (2021) by Elle Decoration.
Sirin Aysan is a documentary filmmaker and creative executive based in Los Angeles. She’s is the entrepreneur and business woman behind Studio Marmi with her fascination of traditional crafts and love of textiles.
Studio Marmi
Jessica is an angel investor and advisor to early stage health and wellness consumer companies. She has a focus on revenue-generating natural / healthy food & beverage businesses.
She is also a personal development author. Her articles, workshops and talks are featured by Wanderlust Festival, Thrive Global, BBC Radio, Insight Timer, GP Bullhound, PwC, the Metro, the Milken Institute & Tictrac. Her first book is in progress - about love, connection and healing loneliness in modern life. Jessica started Communitas Collective - a supportive community for kind and inspiring early stage UK founders. From 2021-2023 she has led a Women’s Circle Community for professional, creative and entrepreneurial women in London. She previously Co-founded meditation company Mind: Unlocked - a meditation and mindfulness company with an online course, workshops and panel discussions. Before that, she co-led an angel investment network - Techsmart Venture Partners - connecting UK start-ups to capital from experienced founders.
