In collaboration with ZUMTOBEL Lighting, HEMPLA SANCTUARY – 'MEDITATION PIT-STOP' – debuted as an immersive installation that brought together mindfulness, cutting-edge design, ancestral craftsmanship, sound, and light at Zumtobel’s new Milan headquarters during Fuorisalone 2025.

Conceived as a biophilic oasis of calm amid the sensory overload of Milan Design Week, the installation offered visitors a moment to pause and reset. Inspired by the contemplative principles of the traditional Zen garden, the Sanctuary featured a curated selection of Hempla meditation furniture; 3D-printed hemp and sugar-based seats alongside handcrafted organic hemp and wool rugs by Sofia Hagen and Studio Marmi.

Guests were invited to relax and meditate, immersed in a Sonic Menu of bespoke healing soundscapes: The Hemplawave, composed by The Sound Nutritionist and informed by Hempla’s geometric language. This auditory experience was complemented by ephemeral lighting by Thorn Lighting and daily guided meditation sessions.

Pairing product design with art, SofiaHagen x Studio Marmi bring together the latest in innovative 3d printing technologies and traditional craftmanship to create a timeless design dedicated to mindfulness.

Inspired by the principles of the traditional Zen Garden for contemplation, HEMPLA is a meditation furniture set that invites its users to create a sanctuary to relax and meditate in a variety of configurations.

HEMPLA meditation furniture set is structured around the Zen garden principles such as simplicity, naturalness and creating an environment of peace, harmony and tranquility.

Asli Smith & Sirin Aysan

Founded by Asli Smith & Sirin Aysan, Studio Marmi was born out of the founders’ desire to create unique collections that expressed rug design as an art form.

Asli Smith is an artist and multi-disciplinary designer based in New York. Her textile work, informed by traditional Anatolian textile and weaving techniques, seeks to create contemporary poetic expressions inspired by the myths, art and history of the cultures of Asia Minor.  Her illustrations have appeared in design publications (American Illustration, Communication Arts and Print), window displays, and textiles. Her woven paintings were on view at the 5th Istanbul Design Biennial as part of the New Civic Rituals Section in 2020. Kozmos Rug Collection, which she designed for Atlas Harran, was selected as winner of Floor Coverings Category of the Edida Awards (2021) by Elle Decoration.

Sirin Aysan is a documentary filmmaker and creative executive based in Los Angeles. Her award-winning work spans visually striking, character-driven documentaries filmed across the globe, covering topics from ancient history to contemporary politics. At the heart of her storytelling, however, lies a deep commitment to gender equality and women’s economic empowerment. As the co-founder of Studio Marmi, she not only produces beautiful rug collections but also strives to create sustainable livelihoods for local economies—particularly for women who have inherited the craft through generations. For her, rug making is a natural extension of both her creative vision and extension of her storytelling journey.
